Approval for Scunthorpe United’s new 12,000-seater stadium has been granted planning permission.

 

The £18m construction project is set for completion in July 2016 with the contractor to be announced next month.


North Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee gave the League One club the nod yesterday for the construction of the stadium, which will form part of the larger Lincolnshire Lakes development which aims to create a special and distinctive community which is a popular and sustainable place to live, work and relax.


Scunthorpe chairman Peter Swann said: “We will be able to announce details of the contractors who we have got to build the stadium in the middle of May.


“Now it’s all systems go as we embark on an exciting journey for the club.”

The new stadium is going to make a fantastic contribution to the Lincolnshire Lakes development which will see the creation of many jobs in the area, including construction jobs and which will stimulate the construction industry and increase demand for buildig supplies and materials in the East Midlands.
