£90million construction work to start on Covent Garden scheme
The major property owner and development company Capital & Counties has unveiled plans to begin the largest construction project in Covent Gardens since the Royal Opera House in the 1990s.
The scheme will transform the King’s Court and Carriage Hall area between the areas of Floral Street and King Street by constructing a walkway between the shopping areas.
The scheme, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Architects will create a public courtyard which will include eight new shops, two restaurants as well as 45 luxury flats.
There will be one anchor store in the Grade II listed Carriage Hall buildings, fronting Floral Street with the aim of drawing in visitors to the area.
The total development cost of the scheme which has already been granted full planning permission is expected to cost around £85 - £90million with work due to last for up to three years, starting this autumn.
