Tradesmen are true superheroes; you’ve been busy building the economy, creating jobs and growth; however since the recession, huge numbers of skilled tradesmen have left the industry and we’re now facing the biggest skills shortages the construction industry has ever seen. Compounding this problem is the perception of construction, which is one of low paid, low skilled, manual roles. It’s estimated that we’ll need over 600,000 new construction workers in the next 5 – 10 years and to achieve that we need to become advocates for this industry. It’s time construction’s super tradesmen get out there and let the world know what it’s really like to work in construction; an industry which has been revolutionised over the last 20 years by technology, an industry in which youngsters can earn a trade that they’ll benefit from for the rest of their lives and an industry that’s prepared to pay well for those skilled tradesmen.
