New houses granted outline planning permission is now the highest since 2008 according to the Home Builders Federation.

The house building trade body said there had been an increase of 8% in Quarter 1 of 2014 when compared to Quarter 1 of 2013 which seems to us to be continued evidence that it's the construction sectors that's at the heart of the recovery."

The Federation went on to say the quarterly figures brought the annual moving total to 177,731, making this the best performing quarter since 2008.

There is one cautionary note though as the number of sites that have been granted outline planning permission fell over the first part of the year.

Let's hope the bureaucrats and politicians involved in the planning process continue to see the benefits to their local area (and to the nation as a whole) from encouraging new homes to be built in their area!
