We're pleased to announce we're lending a helping hand to a unique enterprise project run by Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Renov8.

The project will see seven young people, who are not currently in employment or education, embark on carrying out major improvements to a derelict house in Kearsley, Bolton. Whilst renovating the four bedroom house, the young people are gaining valuable skills and working alongside tradespeople from many businesses including OBAS.

As well as donating a number of necessary construction products, including a new uPVC back door, OBAS staff, including our CEO Norman Tenray will attend onsite to assist with the project and to offer further insights surrounding the construction industry to the seven 17-21 year olds working on the refurbishment.

Once completed the house will be sold and profits will be reinvested into the clubs Enterprise services to fund further projects, helping more young people develop opportunities and their future career.

OBAS CEO Norman Tenray said “We’re passionate about giving back to the community, I believe we need to work to bring together business, charity, education and culture whether possible and this project is a perfect example of the positive OBAS can play.”

Tenray who is President of the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Lancaster and Fellow of the Community Foundation for Lancashire went on to say “I’m confident the young people working on this project will gain the kind of skills and understanding that will make them an asset to the construction industry should they continue to follow that career direction.

“Many trades in the construction industry are currently suffering from severe skills shortages and we need to actively encourage more young people to get involved in an industry which could offer them tremendous opportunities in the future.”

Philip Burke from Bolton Lads and Girls Club said “It’s great to work with OBAS on this project and it’s a privilege to work with their team, including Norman, who is passionate and committed to helping businesses and organisations work more closely together for the benefit of the whole community.”
