Being based in the North West we thought we'd tell you about the Merseyside construction firms that have got behind the drive to banish the “jobs for boys” image the construction industry has.

The new initiative brought in by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is called “Be Fair” and aims to help the industry attract more women for site roles as well as in office jobs.

Cull Dry Lining and Plastering from West Derby, Sovini Property Services from Bootle, Mac Roofing and Contracting from Bromborough, Holloway Cook Associates from Liverpool and Penny Lane Builders from Speke are within the first to be awarded the CITB’s ‘Be Fair’ Accreditation.

The CITB aims to create a more inclusive working environment within the construction industry with an aim to implement a framework that creates a fair, inclusive and respectful industry for all.

Only 12% of the industry over the last 10 years has been made of women and with the new skills shortages in the industry being reported month-in-month-out women are going to have to take a key role as it’s unlikely all of those that have left the industry since the recession will return.
