11 contractors have been appointed to the new HS2 scheme including Northern contractors WYG and Soil Engineering Geoservices Ltd.

It’s anticipated that work on the £50m ground investigation framework will start in the summer.

There are 92 ground investigation packages between London and Birmingham which the 11 contractors will now be able to bid on and which will start in spring.

  • * Environmental Scientific Group Limited
  • * Fugro Seacore (Trading as Fugro Engineering Services)
  • * Structured Soil Ltd
  • * Allied Exploration & Geotechnics Ltd
  • * Ian Farmer Associates (1998) Ltd
  • * RPS

The new framework is the first stage of construction work to be undertaken with the first group of construction contractors that have been appointed for HS2.

Commercial Director, Beth West has been reported as saying there will be “specific, measurable benchmarks when it comes to choosing bids” for work and will include consideration of contractors’ ability to use high-level BIM and offsite modular assembly.

The construction of HS2 will be controlled from the West Midlands and it’s anticipated that this project will offer a good degree of trickle-down to other construction firms around the UK.
