Mitsubishi Estate, Japan’s biggest property developer is to submit plans for an amazing looking 40-story office tower in the centre of the City of London.

The plans which have been designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects show an office-led, mixed-use tower that will also have a public viewing gallery at the top. This is being labelled “The Stack” as the tower resembles a stack of blocks.

The site is one of the most prized locations for redevelopment in the Square Mile, covering 6-8 Bishopsgate and 150 Leadenhall Street and will see the tower sit between the Cheesegrate and the site of the Pinnacle building (which itself is being redeveloped).

Stanthorpe is the development manager of the project in which Mitsubishi Estates hopes will create additional regeneration.

The building will contain 770,000 sq ft and will be based around five rotating blocks with the blocks becoming narrower higher up the tower to produce a slender tower design.

The office will implement innovative uses of building supplies and materials and will feature some of the highest sustainability and low energy features in order to exceed the threshold for BREAM NC 2014 “Excellent” rating (no mean feat for an office block!).

Mr Naoki Umeda, managing director and CEO of Mitsubishi Estate London said: “The submission of this application represents Mitsubishi Estate’s confidence in the City of London’s long term growth prospects as a world financial centre, and its attractiveness for blue chip companies.

“We look forward to enhancing the offer of the City further by delivering a striking landmark building on this fantastic location, which bridges London’s financial and insurance districts”.
