The shortlist has been announced for Central London’s £400m One Nine Elm development, with contractors Bouygues, Carillion, Mace and Skanska on the shortlist.

The site which was previously known as Market Towers, is a Southbank riverside project designed by KPF and located towards the east of the Nine Elms regeneration project, and features two towers of 200m and 160m respectively, to include 439 private residential units, 52 affordable homes and a 187-room, five-star hotel.

Construction News reported last week that a Chinese contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation, had approached a number of UK contractors (believed to include Mace, Kier, Sir Robert McAlpine) with the intention of creating a 50:50 joint venture for this project.

Although it’s unclear if the Chinese corporation had any success with the joint venture discussions, it’s interesting to see Mace is in the running for the development of this highly acclaimed project.

The developer of One Nine Elms is Wanda One, themselves a Chinese backed company (part of Dalian Wanda), which has annual revenues of around £17bn.

It’s believed that Wanda is hoping to appoint the main contractor for the project in November 2014, with work starting in the first few months of 2015.
