Construction Product Sales Grow UK While Eurozone Exports Drop
A recent Construction Products Association report suggests whilst sales in the UK continue to grow there has been a dramatic drop in demand in overseas.
Construction products companies have reported a reduction in the amount of exports they’re making to the Eurozone due to the area’s economic uncertainty.
The State of Trade Survey is the Construction Products Association’s quarterly report and revealed heavy side products companies believed their exports had fallen whilst light side products companies reporting flat exports, with both sides of the industry suggesting the Eurozone’s economy is the main factor determining the amount of exports made.
We’ve been reporting for a while that we’ve seen a marked increase in the amount of construction products being ordered in the UK and this is something that’s being reported by the CPA as well, with 78% of heavy side and 50% of light side companies reporting rising sales in the 3rd quarter compared to the 2nd.
70% of these firms suggested they believed sales would increase over the coming year whilst a significant percentage of those surveyed reported rising costs whilst they felt would continue to rise over the next 12 month period.
Noble Francis, economics director at the Construction Products Association, said the results “highlighted the strength of the UK economy”.
He added: “Furthermore, as recovery in the construction industry has become more broad-based - across private housing, commercial and infrastructure sectors - growth in construction products has become more sustainable and manufacturers are optimistic going forward.
“Rising sales in the coming years are anticipated by 72% of heavy side product manufacturers and 90% of light side product manufacturers.”
