In a move that will see around 1,500 jobs created in the region, the Transport Secretary alongside Birmingham City Council Lead Sir Albert Bore announced HS2 Ltd’s Construction Headquarters will be based in Birmingham.

This news represents a significant part of the city’s Birmingham Curzon regeneration organisation which aims to maximise the benefits of HS2 to the region.

Sir Albert Bore went on to say: "Since the industrial revolution, Birmingham has been a national capital for engineering, so it is only natural that the HS2 construction HQ be based in Birmingham."

The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has announced it will be investing £30m to assist in the plans to develop the 141 hectare site.

It’s expected that the new site will open in 2015 with some jobs being relocated there from London however the majority of the jobs will be new for the West Midlands region.

Overall this projects should offer an exciting boon to the construction industry outside the South East and we're hopefull it will have beneficial impacts far beyond the West Midlands to the rest of the UK.
