BAM Construction is on track to being appointed the contractor to build the new branch of the V&A Museum in Dundee.

The project is worth around £45m and council officers have recommended BAM Construction ahead of a decision to be taken by the council next week.

The new museum will be the centrepiece of a £1bn redevelopment of Dundee’s waterfront with Council administration leader Ken Guild saying the project was "a hugely important investment in the future of the city".

Philip Long, director of V&A Dundee praised BAM Construction's "excellent track record" of delivering "prestigious cultural projects in Scotland".

He went on to say: "This is an important step for all of us in building the home of V&A Dundee, a world-class visitor attraction and flagship of the waterfront regeneration."

BAM’s regional director in Scotland said “This is a project of international significance and it's great to hear that we have been recommended as the preferred main contractor.”

The new V&A museum complex is to be built on the bank of the River Tay to a design by the internationally renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma after he won an international design competition for the complex.

It’s estimated that the V&A Dundee attraction will attract around half a million visitors in its first five years whilst providing a much needed boost to the local economy.
