There'll be plenty of opportunities for the construction industry following the announcement that Persimmon is to make a start on the £70m, 700-home development in Coventry following the completion of a deal to buy the former Courtaulds factory site.

The Courtaulds site dates back to the 1920s; in the 1950s and '60s, some 5,000 people worked there but the buildings have not been used since 2007. Whilst the majority of the buildings making up the Courtaulds Industrial Estate have already been demolished, the plan includes keeping the much loved façade of the main factory building.

Work will commence next month which will include the construction of a new 113 home project as part of the first phase of the overall £70m construction project which will create over 1,600 new jobs, including construction jobs and increase demand for building supplies throughout the West Midlands and beyond and which will take over eight years to deliver - so hard hats will be famility for some time to come in the area!

The total site is 19.6 hectares and will be marketed as Paragon Park. Andy Peters, managing director at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “This is a landmark deal for us and Coventry that reinforces our commitment to create new homes and jobs for the city. We are aware of the need for new homes in the area with our new developments.”
