Keepmost and Strata have been selected as the preferred developers of the old Seacroft Hospital in Leeds by the Homes and Communities Agency due to their proposed joint venture project for the site.

The city’s suburb of Seacroft will undergo a huge £120m redevelopment which will include around 700 new homes with work due to start in late 2015.

There will be a good mix of homes available in the scheme with 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms being delivered to the open market as well as through the Government’s Help to Buy Scheme.

Both companies have indicated that they intend to expand further into West Yorkshire in 2015 with the Seacroft project being an integral part of their ambitions.

Mark Knight, regional managing director for Keepmoat Homes Yorkshire said: “This momentous win for Keepmoat in West Yorkshire emphasises the strength of our house building and regeneration offerings.”

Naomi Beckett, area manager for the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) said: “We know that Keepmoat and Strata will do an excellent job in building not just much needed new homes but will create a new community, turning public land that is surplus to requirements into a great place for people to live.”

The two companies are working together on a number of projects in the coming months and years including the £250m Dominion development on Woodfield Way, Doncaster which is also on land managed by the Homes and Communities Agency, as well as working with Home Group and Hull City Council to build over 4000 new homes across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Seacroft Hospital is one of the oldest in Leeds having been founded in 1904. The proceeds from the £6m sale of the land are being ploughed back into the hospital trust.

The landmark Seacroft Hospital clock tower is to be retained in the project, as will the National Blood Service building which was not owned by Leeds teaching Hospitals.
