In news that should bolster the construction sector in the West Midlands, Salmon Harvester has announced they've gained detailed planning permission on the £24m redevelopment of their Worcester shopping centre.

The shopping centre, known as Cathedral Plaza is 220,000 sq ft and the redevelopment will create a range of seven new restaurants, all of which overlook a new public square which will be located in front of Worcester Cathedral and remodelled shops. The redevelopment will also include a gym and a grocery store.

Salmon Harvester’s Nick Webb said: “We have been working in partnership with both city and county councils and have been very pleased with the positive approach both have taken to the project as this is exactly the type of investment the city centre needs.”

The existing shopping centre will be opened up to create a more welcoming and light space, with the space for the public square being taken from the site of the nearby roundabout between Deansgate and College Street.

It’s expected that the new shops and restaurants will be open for business in Spring 2016 with the redevelopment work starting early in 2015.

Leslie Jones Architecture designed the redevelopment and refurbishment project, whilst London office of Stace acted as project manager and Manchester based Foreman Roberts M&E consulted on the project.
