The renovation of University of Edinburgh’s historic McEwan Hall has been won by Interserve with a bid of £19.1m.

McEwan Hall dates from 1897 and a decision has been made to revamp the building following a long list of maintenance issues, including penetrating damp, damaged exterior stonework and failing ceilings.

The project, designed by LDN and Buro Happold, aims to increase the accessibility and capacity of the Robert Rowan Anderson whilst restoring the whole building to the former glory.

Internal renovation work will last for around two years and will include a huge extension of the basement in Bristo Square whilst creating a large glass public entrance; the external stonework has been procured separately and is mainly completed.
