A specially adapted JCB has gained the title Fastest Digger On Earth having attained speeds in excess of 70mph.

The speed attempt was made close to Sydney in Australia and was confirmed as being the fastest backhoe loader in the world by the Guinness Book of Record having reached a speed 72.58 mph.

The Managing Director of JCB Pacific Fab Carrettin said: “The JCB GT has always been regarded as the fastest backhoe around and now it’s official.”

The driver who drove the JCB to its world record success was JCB Demonstration Driver Matthew “The Digg” Lucas.

Lucas who is from Werrington, Stoke-on-Trent said: “It was great to be involved in such an exciting project and a real honour to be behind the wheel when we achieved the record.”

The JCB was specially adapted and included a huge chevvy engine to help it achieve the breakneck speeds! Don’t try to supe up your standard JCB – it might not end as well!
