Derwent London has announced they plan to start their long awaited and ambitious development project later this year.

Derwent has confirmed that they’re start work in the second half of 2015 on the huge 367,000 sq ft mixed use development at 80 Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia.

It’s understood that a number of main contractors including BAM Construct, Brookfield Multiplex and Mace are all in the running for the construction contract.

The project has been on hold since July 2013 since Saatchi & Saatchi, which has been based in the building since 1975 postponed the planned relocation from the building.

The new project will consist of office space, residential units as well as retail offerings all designed by architects Make.

The development will include a part refurbishment of the existing building as well as new build construction on the site with the use of the existing structure being used to offset some of the carbon emissions and helping to reduce the overall construction period, labour costs and building supplies required throughout the project.

Included in the 367,000 sq ft redevelopment there will be 336,000 sq ft of office, residential and retail space at 80 Charlotte Street and 31,000 sq ft of residential space at 65 Whitfield Street and 1-8 Whitfield Place, which is close to the Charlotte Street site.
