The Welsh Government is looking for a contractor to refit the fire ravaged M4 Brynglas Tunnels.

The tunnels which are 370-m long twin-bored tunnels, were the first in the British motorway network, and are a traffic bottleneck on the M4, will have improved lighting to replace the temporary strip lighting that was installed after a 2011 fire which was caused by the explosion of a truck in the tunnel.

The contract will also include improvements to the Malpas Viaduct and Usk River Bridge which will be available to be let as an early contractor involvement deal.

Work will commence on the project next year and is due to be completed in 2016 and has £40m allocated to the project.

Interested firms have until 19 December to complete PQQs, which can be found on the eTenderWales website, PQQ/ITT search code 31688.

Five shortlisted firm will then be invited to tender in January.
