Although the UK Cabinet reshuffle took place in July it has now been confirmed that Nick Boles has been given the position of Construction Minister.

Nick Boles, who has beeen moved from his role as planning minister in the communities department, does have some connection to the Construction Industry; in 1995 he set up a DIY supplies business with a friend and remains the non-executive Chairman of the business.

It’s sad to say that construction won’t be Boles' only portfolio, rather it’s been grouped together with other areas of responsibility. Building did an interesting piece on the declining role of the Construction Minister, however with Boles' connections with the industry, he might be the kind of Construction Minister we need.

Nick Boles has previously put it on record that planning permission needs to be sped up so houses can be built quicker, so it could be he'll carry on pushing the agenda for greater house building in his new position.
