Successful contractors for the £16bn Crossrail 2 scheme have been announced and include bidders such as Mott Macdonald and Atkins.

 

Among the four groups of consultants appointed to create designs for the huge Greater London transportation construction project are Arcadis, CH2M Hill and Aecom.

 

Crossrail 2 aims to continue on from the hugely successful Crossrail project and will aim to connect the North-east to the South-west London through a tunnel which will run under the centre of the capital.


Winning bidders

 

Engineering and technical:

Aarcadis Hyder (in partnership with Weston Williamson, Vinci Construction, Interfleet and First Class Partnerships and Dr Sauer & Partners).

 

Strategic modelling, planning and evalutation:

CH2M Hill and Atkins (CAST)

 

Environment and sustainability:

Mott MacDonald, Temple Group, ERM, and WSP Ltd (MTEW)

 

Town planning, urban design and economic development:

Aecom, Weston Williamson and Turkington Martin

 

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said there was “now real momentum” behind the scheme.

 

Stating: “We’re seeing strong recognition from the business community that this project could have major benefits for London, helping to boost rail capacity and the creation of new jobs and homes in the capital and beyond.”

 

The development of Crossrail in the captial has provided huge opportunities for the full spectrum of construction industry workers in the UK and it's envidsaged that Crossrail 2 will have an equal, if not largely impact on construction job creation and the demand for construction products.
