Network Rail and Kier have announced plans for a £150m joint venture to redevelop Guildford Station.

This is the seventh projected that’s been promoted by the £500m joint venture between Network Rail and Kier Property known as Solum Regeneration.

The Guildford Station regeneration scheme will see huge improvements to infrastructure of the station, including a new £25m state of the art station building, enhanced public spaces and a major transport hub.

In addition the scheme will also create 445 new homes, office space, shops and restaurants.

Peter Hughes, development director from Solum Regeneration, added: “This is another step forward for Solum Regeneration.

“We have now completed three major schemes and two more are about to start.

“Guildford will be our biggest regeneration project yet. Our proposals will regenerate an unsightly and underused brownfield site in the town centre and provide a modern, attractive station.”

The development site which is around 2.2 hectares has been identified by the local council as a site for commercial and residential redevelopment for a long time and so this should proceed relatively quickly providing opporunities for construction firms and specialist contractors in the coming years.
